P1 - Activating Students' Career-/Transfer- Success & Self-Efficacy: Miami Dade College's STEM Career Launchpad Summer Program

Program Abstract: This presentation outlines the STEM Career Launchpad, a 10-week summer program at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, funded by the U.S. Department of Education Title III HSI-STEM grant (‘STEM Legacy’). Designed to enhance career readiness and self-efficacy for underrepresented students in STEM fields, the program integrates experiential learning, skill development, and industry. Key components include the Passion Project Showcase, where students independently research and propose solutions to issues that inspire them; workshops focused on essential job readiness skills; and networking opportunities with professionals from various STEM sectors, including companies like Microsoft and Royal Caribbean’s cybersecurity team. Evaluation results indicate significant improvements in participants' confidence, self-efficacy, oral communication, and networking skills. Feedback highlights the value of diverse perspectives and practical insights gained through networking interactions. The STEM Legacy program aims to expand these initiatives in Summer 2025, enhancing its curriculum around career readiness and social capital in partnership with Career Launch.
