Trudy E. Thomas-Smith, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, at the State University of New York Oneonta. Dr. Thomas-Smith is an experienced practitioner and instructor of analytical chemistry, who has been involved with inclusive pedagogical methods for several years. She combines her love of teaching chemistry with a strong desire to encourage those traditionally underrepresented in science to become part of the scientific community. Over the course of her career, she has been a co-PI and workshop facilitator for NSF-funded grants. She was also the faculty leader of the Inclusive Classroom Team, which brought speakers and workshops to SUNY Oneonta. She has participated in the AAC&U TIDES Institute to gain insights into serving the Hispanic student population and presented at Project Kaleidoscope conferences. Currently, she co-leads the Faculty Academy at SUNY Oneonta, which is a community of practitioners implementing the Pedagogy of Real Talk by Paul Hernandez.
