Dr. Josie Melton is a STEM Education Researcher in the Science, Math, and Technology Education program (SMATE) at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. A former middle school science teacher, Dr. Melton has worked with elementary and middle level preservice and inservice science teachers for over ten years at WWU. She currently works on a variety of grant-funded projects around science education from the elementary to the undergraduate level, including BETTER in STEM and is the Co-primary Investigator on the NSF Project: Culturally Responsive Elementary Science Teaching (CREST). Dr. Melton's personal research interests include elementary science curriculum implementation, incorporating a sense of wonder in elementary classrooms, and supporting undergraduate STEM instructors implementation of equitable, student-centered practices.
