Dr. Milena Cuellar has been a Professor at LaGuardia Community College (CUNY) since 2012 and was the Deputy Chair of the Department of Mathematics from 2018 to 2020. Over the course of her career, she has worked at higher education institutions in Colombia, the UK, and the US, serving diverse student populations. Her accomplishments include being named a Carnegie National Faculty member and receiving the 2015 Leadership Recognition Award from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. From 2017-2019, Dr. Cuellar was part of the CUNY Math Innovation (MI) Team, funded by Start Strong to Finish (SSTF), to implement mathematics guided pathways at all 7 CUNY community colleges. Her professional and research activities focus on equity analytics and implementing High Impact Practices to increase representation of marginalized communities in STEM. She has earned certificates in Inclusive STEM Teaching and Student Success Analytics. From 2018-2020, she was a consultant for the Charles A. Dana Center at the University of Texas, designing and facilitating coaching equity data sessions for institutions implementing the Dana Center’s Mathematics Pathways. Since 2022, she has been a member of the executive board of the Colombian non-profit ScienteLab and a volunteer instructor with their Clubes de Ciencia program since 2018. ScienteLab aims to expand access to high quality STEM education in underserved communities in Colombia. In 2022, Dr. Cuellar and Dr. Jaafar received three CUNY-funded grants from the Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies Initiative, CUNY OER, and CUNY's Professional Staff Congress focused on equity studies. She also serves on several LaGuardia Community College committees focused on inclusion, diversity, equity and access.
