I integrate island-scale fieldwork with submarine geology to explore the dynamics of mantle plumes, primarily the Galápagos mantle plume. Using geochemistry and petrology, I have focused on the Northern Galápagos Volcanic Province, Floreana, Santa Cruz, Española, and San Cristóbal to understand the evolution of Galápagos volcanoes. With Meg Gardner (Colgate University Educational Studies), we have a collaborative project in which undergraduate, future teachers build interdisciplinary STEM curricular materials through the lens of the Galápagos in a novel teacher-preparation program that emphasizes design thinking.
