Dr. Emmanuell Alvarado works as a professor of Spanish and sociology and is also the department chair of social sciences at Palm Beach State College. Dr. Alvarado also leads the College’s Summer Institute, a dynamic, grant-sponsored 4-day culturally responsive pedagogy faculty development training program. He has also published numerous articles and presented various conference papers in the fields of Sociolinguistics and Hispanic Studies. Some of his publications include ‘Mexico’s Poor: Contextualizing Poverty and Inequality in the Post-NAFTA Years’, published in the Delaware Review of Latin American Studies. Subsequent articles include ‘Attitudes Toward Immigrants and Multiculturalism in Contemporary America: The Role of Foreign Language Fluency’, published in Sociation Today, as well as ‘Intimacy, migration, and Cultural Change: Latinos and American Fertility.’ published in Revista de Estudios Sociales. More recently, Dr. Alvarado has co-authored the books Intimacies and Cultural Change (2014, Routledge) and Transnational Popular Psychology and the Global Self-Help Industry (2016, Palgrave), as well as the book chapter “Neoliberalism and the Negotiation of the American Dream in Contemporary Latina Narratives” (Bristol University Press).
