Academic Resource Center Peer Education Manager

Cheryl Beierschmitt, Ed.D., is the Peer Education Manager in Duke University's Academic Resource Center. She has been in the Triangle area of North Carolina for over 20 years, first coming to the area to earn an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also earned a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Berry College, a liberal arts school in northwest Georgia. She earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro with a dissertation focused on how school philosophy and admissions policies may impact racial diversity at selective STEM high schools. She worked for 17 years at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, NC first as an Instructor of Mathematics and then as the Durham Chair of Mathematics. She has enjoyed working with students from kindergarten through college in her career. She is passionate about supporting student success and creating welcoming, inclusive learning communities. In her current role, Cheryl oversees programs that provide peer-led tutoring groups for undergraduate students in a range of courses, particularly introductory STEM courses.
