Wendy L. Reed, Dean, Swenson College of Science & Engineering, University of Minnesota Duluth
Reed earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Kalamazoo College (MI), and her doctorate in ecology and evolutionary biology from Iowa State University. She rose through the academic ranks from assistant professor to full professor with tenure in the Department of Biological Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU). At NDSU she served as department head and associate dean for the College of Science & Mathematics. She joined University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) as the Dean of the Swenson College of Science & Engineering (SCSE) in 2018.
Reed is an accomplished researcher, teacher, and leader. Her research program has been featured in popular outlets such as Discover Magazine, AAAS radio and the Washington Post. Her students have gone on to productive careers in academia as well as industry and agencies. She is recognized as a National Academies Education Fellow in the Life Sciences for her commitment to high impact undergraduate education and mentoring. As dean she has led one of the largest colleges in the University of Minnesota System
