Program Abstract: This session addresses two critical issues in STEM education: the inconsistent use of precise communication and ineffective question management, both of which create barriers for marginalized students and faculty. We will examine how inconsistent language in STEM curricula—often figurative, vague, or unclear—can alienate learners and limit engagement. The session focuses on reframing STEM education as a model of literal, clear, and specific communication. Additionally, we will explore how improved question management can enhance problem-solving and critical thinking, drawing parallels between algebraic thinking and AI-driven logic. Attendees will leave with strategies to improve STEM learning environments by ensuring clarity in both communication and question handling, promoting inclusivity and success for marginalized groups in STEM disciplines.
