Program Abstract: We all want graduates of our programs to learn the concepts, skills, and dispositions that are stated in our student learning outcomes (SLOs). A curriculum map lets you see if this is actually happening. This poster presents the results of a curriculum mapping process carried out by biology faculty at a land-grant, research-focused institution. Additionally, I share strategies and tips that could be used by any program wishing to embark on their own curriculum mapping exercise.
Our curriculum map shows that students graduating from our major meet 12 of our 17 SLOs at the introduced, reinforced, and mastery levels. However, many students likely graduate without meeting 5 of our SLOs at the reinforced or mastery level. Based on these results, we are revising courses, adding a new course to our curriculum, and revising the wording of our SLOs.
